Diversity is a core value at HSE. We believe that a diverse workforce contributes to the quality of our work, helps us better understand and serve a diverse range of clients and our communities, and enriches our workday lives.
Our goal is to foster and support an inclusive environment that appreciates, respects and values individual and group differences across all areas of the firm, and to support each member of our diverse workforce so that each individual can have an equal opportunity to succeed at the firm.
DIVERSITY COMMITTEE
Our Diversity Committee is comprised of partners, associates, paralegals and staff. The mission of the Diversity Committee is “to strive to increase and maintain the firm’s diversity so as to reflect the demographics of the broader community and to allow the firm to gain access to the full range of human talents and possibilities.”
The Committee has developed a strategic plan governing diversity initiatives. An important element of the strategic plan is the development of internal educational programs to educate the firm’s employees on diversity issues and to identify the firm’s expectations with regard to each individual’s contributions to diversity. To this end, the committee has designed and implemented a series of diversity education sessions.
Another element of the plan is the need to ensure that the firm’s population reflects the diversity of the communities in which our clients and we do business. Recruiting and hiring of personnel from under-represented groups is therefore a priority. The Diversity Committee works closely with the firm’s Hiring Committee and the Associate Retention and Development Committee to ensure that our recruiting and retention practices are designed to attract and retain a diverse group of attorneys, and the Diversity Committee meets regularly with the firm’s Human Resources Director to help coordinate diversity initiatives relating to the hiring of non-legal staff.
